The newest iPhones are very reluctant to be taken offline, which can lead to frustration when you're making a new connection to a Wi-Fi device in Holman Home. Because pairing can cause an upset for the iPhone, we need to really isolate the Wi-Fi connection/s that it has access to and by doing this we can stop it from failing to connect your new device.
Go to your iPhone settings menu:
*If your home network has 2 names (one for 5gHz and one for 2.4gHz), turn off auto-join for both, and then manually connect back into your 2.4gHz network
*Where you have one network name, simply turn off the auto-join and remain connected to the network)
Tap the 'i' beside the network name to access this setting, then move the toggle to off:
*Turn off mobile data
You've now isolated your phone to only have access to the Wi-Fi which it is connected to and no other options if it is disconnected.
In Holman Home, either tap the 'add device' button or use the 'add device' menu (top right of the home page)
*Select your item from the 'add manually' menu
*When prompted check your Wi-Fi name and enter the password
*On the 'Reset the device' page, tap the 'EZ' at the top right and change it to 'AP'
*Create the slow flash for your device (usually by holding the button for 5 seconds to change from fast to slow - the app will prompt you for your specific device), confirm and hit next
*Tap the 'Go to connect' button, and you'll be put into your settings menu
*Select Wi-Fi and look for your Holman access point - tap on it to connect and wait for the phone to advise that it has 'connected without internet', you'll see the familiar blue tick
*Tap back at the top left of the screen to return to the app
*IF you see a 'reconnect' button look for the blue text below the button:
"Confirm hot spot connection, next" - tap the text to move on to the 2min countdown
If the Wi-Fi name and password were correct, then your device will stop flashing, but the countdown will still continue (because there's no internet) - this confirms the connection is underway. Allow the countdown to time out.
When you get the failure message, leave the app there (don't close anything) and use multi screen mode go back to your phone settings. Here you need to go into Wi-Fi and reconnect your phone to your home Wi-Fi network (by tapping on it).
Go back to the app, use the 'x' at the top left of the failure message to return to the home page of the app - you should now see your connected device!
Don't forget to revert your auto-join and also your mobile data settings, you can go back to normal phone use.
You're now ready to use your device.
