Let's look at common FAQs and problems for Bluetooth devices and the best workarounds to help you get what you need from your system.
Problem: I can't pair my device in iGardener
Solution:
Android users -
- Ensure the nearby device permission is allowed as well as location (this is how your phone 'sees' Bluetooth devices), the minimum permission is 'while using the app'. You'll also need your Bluetooth and location on when searching for the device.
- If your settings are already in place, then clearing the Bluetooth cache can help. To do this, go to your settings menu, go to apps (in some phones you need to select 'show system apps'), then look for the Bluetooth app, go into the settings and select storage - clear the cache (not data!).
iOS users -
- iOS 17 and above now asks for the Bluetooth and location permission - please ensure you've allowed the permission and have both Bluetooth and location on before pairing.
- If permissions were denied, you'd need to restart the phone after giving the permissions to then allow pairing.
- To clear the Bluetooth cache, put your phone into airplane mode for 1min, then when you return to normal you should be able to pair.
All users -
-
Make sure you're within 20m, but preferably 10m of your device when trying to connect.
-
If you have pending updates in your phone, these can eventually stop some functions on your phone from working well, please ensure any pending updates are allowed to download and complete, then attempt pairing again.
- Ensure you have not paired the device through your 'normal' Bluetooth connections, if you have it will not be able to pair in iGardener - remove the device from your Bluetooth connections and then restart your phone, you should now be able to add the device into the app.
Problem: I'm having trouble setting my schedule
Solution:
For lighting - How do I set a timer on my Bluetooth Garden Lights?
For BX Tap Timers -
- Intervals - How do I set interval watering for my BX Tap Timer?
- Using the pick wheel - Touch the part of the time (which is 24hr time, hrs:mins) you need to change and then without lifting your finger from the screen scroll up and down to get to the time you're after.
Problem: My schedule isn't working / My tap timer won't stop working!
Solution:
For lighting - After setting the timer in your scene, tap 'Done' at the top right and then ensure that the 'OFF' button has been selected after setting your schedule, then your lights will come on with their schedule.
Please note: If you open the app and use the lights outside of the scheduled time you will interrupt the program, so please be mindful of this when using the lights manually.
For BX Tap Timers - Be mindful that the 'Run Time' in iGardener is not the time you want to end the program - but how long you want the timer to water for.
Caution: This schedule has a run time of 6hours and 15min
If you only want the timer to run for minutes, ensure the hour is set to '00'
Please note: After setting a schedule ensure you 'update' the timer - this sends the program information to your timer to use along with a date and time stamp for reference.
Please note: Daylight Saving Time can leave your timing out by 1hour - this can be corrected by opening the app and making a 1min change to your schedule (or manual watering for a BX Tap Timer), in the lighting controller tap 'done' and then turn the controller to synch again, in the BX Tap Timer tap 'done' and then 'update' to send a new timestamp to your device.
Problem: I need to reset my device
Solution:
For lighting - Before resetting, make sure you've deleted the light controller from your iGardener app.
To do this, tap the name of the controller (below the dimmer bar) and then on the 'Edit my light' page there's a delete button. Now unplug the controller from the power point for 10min (not just turned off, but unplugged), this will clear the Bluetooth connection memory of the controller.
