The main difference between the two networks is the range (coverage) and the bandwidth (speed) that the networks provide.
The 2.4GHz network transmits data at lower speeds, this allows for more coverage at a longer range (great for large homes and backyards). It also allows for data to be transmitted through solid objects more easily. This is often used for Wi-Fi enabled devices and other household devices. However, this frequency only allows for up to 11 channels, so can often become congested if you have a large amount of smart and Wi-Fi products in your home.
The 5GHz network transmits data at higher speeds, this is great for uploads and downloads, however, the range is limited and works best with devices close to your router. This network has up to 23 channels which reduces the problems associated with overcrowding.
Our Wi-Fi products use the 2.4GHz network, which allows you to have more coverage throughout your home and garden. When setting up your device, we still recommend connecting your device to the Holman Home app, as close to your router as possible.
