Why Is My Irrigation Program Running Multiple Times?
If your irrigation system is running through its zones more than once per day, it’s likely due to a programming error. Here’s how to identify and fix the issue.
🕒 Understanding Start Times
Your irrigation controller runs zones sequentially based on the start time you’ve programmed.
- If you have multiple start times, the controller will repeat the entire sequence for each start.
- To water once per day, you only need one start time.
✅ Correct Setup Example:
- Program 1 Start Time 1: 6:00 AM
(All zones will run one after the other starting at 6:00 AM)
❌ Incorrect Setup:
- Multiple start times entered (e.g., 6:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM)
(This causes the system to run the full program multiple times)
⚠️ What If the System Keeps Watering Without Power?
If you’ve removed power from the controller (unplugged it or disconnected the 24VAC wires) and the system is still watering, this is not a controller issue.
🔧 This Indicates a Valve Fault
- The solenoid valve in the garden is stuck open and physically unable to shut.
- This can happen due to debris, wear, or internal damage.
✅ What to Do Next
- Turn off the water supply to your irrigation system.
(Look for an isolation valve near the controller or tap) - Inspect your solenoid valves for damage or debris.
- Refer to our Solenoid Maintenance Guide for step-by-step instructions.
