There are 2 types available :
- the QuikMix™ spray washer, which is for washing as opposed to diluting for the garden - this item is not for garden use, and is simply a detergent application bottle with flow control to turn the detergent up and down.
- the QuikMix™ spray gun, which is for the garden and comes in 450ml and 1L varieties. This is made to help with diluting fertiliser and garden chemicals with a handy chart to help you get your mix right the first time.
Please note: The details below apply to the QuikMix™ spray gun for the garden
Using the chart:
The best way to think of this is to start with how much you want to make - what's the end result?
1st column-LEVEL: refers to the dial position
2nd colum-1l /0.5L refers to the total amount of solution you are making.
3rd column-TIME (mins) refers to the approximate time that the bottle will empty, this is dependent on your household pressure so it may be longer or shorter accordingly.
** Your household pressure maybe less or more than the test pressure - use your thumb control to adjust the flow**
Your chemical or fertiliser will specify a dilution rate. Use this to determine the dial position and Time it takes to use the solution in the bottle.
For this example, we are using the following dilution chart.
- Ferns and indoor plants: 20ml per 9 litres.
- Vegies, herbs, annuals, and established gardens: 30ml per 9 litres.
- New lawns: 50ml per 9 litres
To Mix the equivalent of 20mm to make 9ltrs, check the CENTRE chart (2nd column) to see which value is the closest match, On the 0.5 chart, this is 9.5. Suggest go over, not under to ensure no burning occurs.
To Mix;
- Put 20mm of solution into the bottle.
- Fill the bottle to the 500ml mark with water.
- Turn the dial to the number 3 position.
- Spray with the hose attached until the solution is finished.
If we use the same example for the 1ltr bottle, using the Following dilution chart.
- Ferns and indoor plants: 20ml per 9 litres.
- Vegies, herbs, annuals, and established gardens: 30ml per 9 litres.
- New lawns: 50ml per 9 litres
You can Double (or triple) the solution to get to 18ltrs, e.g. 40mm per 18ltrs
Use the middle chart to get the closest to 18l, in this case, it will be 19.5
- Put 40mls into the bottle
- Fill the bottle to the 1ltr mark with water
- Turn the dial to the number 5 position
- Spray with the hose attached until the solution is finished.
Blockages:
Some solutions (Seaweed and organics in particular) contain larger particles which can block the head of your QuikMix™. While you can strain heavier solutions, it's not always possible to remove all the solids and a blockage may occur.
For the spray gun:
- Make a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar
- Take the head of the gun and detach the bottle and straw - this way only the spray head is being immersed.
- Allow it to soak for 10min and then jiggle it back and forwards to remove particles
- Repeat if there was a lot of 'gunk' in the water solution.
-
Rinse well and test
Providing the particles are soluble this will work, we've had success with both orchid fertiliser and seaweed particles from this method.
Some other more stubborn blockages can occur in the head at the top of the straw.
In the head of the sprayer - when you take out the straw - there's a tiny pinhole there which may be blocked (circled in blue):
You can poke this with a pin, and then check to see if the bottle is now able to syphon.
