If you've upgraded or changed modem in the last 12 months, you may now have a Wi-Fi 6 or a mesh modem. These can present a challenge for some Holman Home Wi-Fi devices, as many are blocked by the new default security level WPA2/WPA3.
This can include new modems from Sagemcom, Amazon eero, ASUS, D-Link, Google, Linksys, Netgear, Tenda and TP-Link. Usually, you'll find these have WiFi 6 and/or "AX" in their names.
This technology is aimed at increasing security to help protect us from online threats.
However, by setting up guest network or using the split in your Wi-Fi settings (with security of WPA2 set for the 2.4gHz network), then you should be able to connect your Holman devices in EZ mode.
Remember: If this is an update to your existing modem you’ll need to remove the devices from Holman Home prior to reconnecting. We recommend selecting ‘disconnect’ and not use 'disconnect and wipe' – this way your settings saved in the cloud server will come back to your device after it's reconnected.
Please note: Scenes (formerly called Smarts) are not able to be saved and will need to be entered for each device.
If you have a Wi-Fi 6 modem (or mesh set up) which used an app for set-up and controls, then you may have a 'Guest' or 'IoT' network option available in your app (using the 2.4gHz network, and WPA2 PSK or personal security level).
By using this setting you'll then be able to connect your Holman Home Wi-Fi device in that dedicated space. Mesh and node systems like Google mesh also offer this setting.
We've got a screenshot from the TP-Link Deco Mesh app as an example below:
If you're using a mobile data modem, these also need a guest network set up, please refer to your instruction manual for set up instructions.
For telco modems such as those from Telstra and Optus, they've had these devices out for more than 12 months now, and they share their workarounds online, to help out we've put these below for you:
Telstra:
- Use the Telstra IP gateway to access the modem settings
- Under the 'Wi-Fi' menu, toggle to split the bands (if they're not already showing 'split on')
- Change the security on the 2.4gHz from WPA2-WPA3 (combined) to WPA2 only - this will allow your Holman devices to connect
Please note: WPA2 is used by Gen 2 modems and is still secure. The new mixed WPA mode or WPA3 mode will stop 2.4gHz devices on WPA2 from connecting. The 'split' toggle in this new modem allows you to see both bands as separate networks.
The new mixed WPA2/3 mode will stop our 2.4gHz devices on WPA2 from connecting. The guest network recommendation is preferred by your network provider.
Optus:
Here are the Optus provided steps to set up a Guest WiFi network:
Please note: We recommend using WPA2-PSK or Personal not WPA as given by Optus

*This does not apply to Gen 1 products such as (i.e. Sagemcom 5366TN, Optus Ultra WiFi (Gen 1 5366 LTE)
