If your Quik Dial Tap Timer is not shutting off after watering, or it isn’t turning on as expected, the issue is commonly related to the internal diaphragm inside the timer.
Why This Happens
This problem is usually caused by airlocks or excess pressure in the watering line. It most often occurs when:
- You have a short poly pipe run (under 20 m)
- The line uses drippers or small micro sprayers
- More water is entering the line than exiting it
When this happens, pressure can build up and prevent the valve inside the timer from operating correctly.
How to Reset the Valve in the Timer
Follow the steps below to correct the valve operation:
- Remove the timer from the tap
Shake the timer vigorously to remove any excess water trapped inside. - Manually cycle the affected zone
- Hold the timer in your hand (not connected to the tap)
- Press the ON/OFF button once
- Select the affected ZONE
- Press the orange dial to manually run the zone for 10 seconds
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn it off
- Repeat the process
- Repeat the steps several times in a row
- Continue until you hear the internal valve “clicking” inside the unit
- Reconnect the timer
- Reattach the timer to the tap
- Turn the tap on and check that the valve is now fully shut when the timer is off
Preventing the Issue in the Future
If the steps above resolve the problem, we strongly recommend installing a pressure reducer at the tap before the timer to prevent it from happening again.
- Recommended product: Holman VPR200 Pressure Reducer
- Available from Bunnings or the Holman Industries website
- Install order: Tap → Pressure Reducer → Timer
If the Issue Continues
If the timer still does not operate correctly after completing the steps above, the unit will need to be replaced at the place of purchase. Please take your receipt with you.
